Description of Reproductive Health Working Group

Women in Fire (WIF) has partnered with the Center for Fire, Rescue, & EMS Health Research (CFREHR), part of NDRI-USA, on a FEMA-funded project focused on the development and dissemination of women’s health educational content for the fire service.

The CFREHR and WIF will convene an expert panel of occupational health providers, researchers, and key fire service personnel to summarize documents and current research related to reproductive health, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.

The panel will develop resource guides for occupational physicians based on firefighters’ duties and recommendations, as well as for firefighters. The guides will help to build confidence and trust between all parties involved in firefighters’ overall health and wellness.

The panel will also assist in avenues for the dissemination of the material. We estimate the time commitment will include quarterly meetings lasting approximately 1-2 hours each and time spent reviewing materials intermittently.

If we are able to hold an in-person stakeholder meeting, we will cover the costs of travel. The total grant period is two years.
